Guidelines

Founded in 1989, the Samuel P. Pardoe Foundation intends to continue the project-oriented giving style of the donor who supported a wide range of needs during his lifetime.

Geographic Restrictions

Grantmaking will be limited to organizations located within or serving the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, with a priority focus on Laconia.

Areas of Interest

The Foundation's interests include education, land and resource management, and social services. There is a particular interest in programs that provide opportunities for disadvantaged persons, especially children.

Education

The focus is on support for programs on a pre-collegiate level that enhance the educational experiences of New Hampshire children. There is a special interest in increasing access to educational opportunities, particularly experiential learning. The Foundation will also support literacy, tutoring and arts education programs.

Land and Resource Management

The focus is on support for programs related to specific conservation initiatives. The Foundation will also support programs that educate New Hampshire residents about conservation and other environmental issues.

Social Services

The focus is on support for programs that provide for basic human needs including housing, job training, counseling, and health.

Types of Support

The Foundation prefers to fund specific projects and special programs, capital improvements, and equipment purchases. Multiple year awards will be based on careful review of a grantee's performance.

Grants are made only to organizations which are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are classified as "not a private foundation" under Section 509(a).

Exclusions

The Foundation does not fund endowments, individual scholarships, loans, deficits, sectarian religious or political activities, or advertising. Grants are not made to individuals. Grants for operating expenses are normally excluded.

The directors reserve the right to modify these guidelines as necessary.
